Audible – Listen to Your Books on the Go

I commuted to work for years, sometimes by walking, sometimes by driving, and sometimes by taking the subway.

My problem was I never knew what to do with the time I spent traveling to and from work each day.

Now, if you live only a few miles from work, you may have never given this a second thought, but at various times in the last few years, I commuted as much as 2-3 hours a day. I wasn’t getting that time back, and I also wasn’t getting paid for it.

There had to be something useful I could be doing during this time.

Well, a friend of mine who rides the subway into work every morning told me that he uses Audible to listen to audiobooks on his morning commute. He loved it so much that I had to check it out.

Plus, there is a 30-day free trial that comes with a free audiobook of your choice. That’s a win-win!

It didn’t take long browsing the huge selection of books for me to find a few of my favorites and a few that look interesting.

  • On Writing – This is a classic book by Stephen King on the craft of writing. If you are a Stephen King fan, you should definitely give this book a listen.
  • On Writing Well – This book, by William Zinsser, is another classic work on writing nonfiction. A must listen for people who write daily in their jobs.
  • Bird by Bird – I have not read or listened to this book, but I have been meaning to for awhile.

Take a look for yourself. They have over 250,000 titles. That is a lot of books!

Instant Book Recommendations

One new feature that my friend doesn’t even know about yet is the new Audible instant book recommendations. This feature allows Audible users to give any audiobook they own in their “My Library” to their friends instantly via email, texting, Facebook, WhatsApp, etc.

This is a great feature that will allow my friend and I to swap and share books as we find ones that each other will enjoy.

When I find a book that he would like, all I do is tap the “Send this Book” icon in my library. Presto! And if it’s someone’s first time accepting an audiobook through this new feature, he or she will get it for free. It will be great to share book recommendations back and forth all summer long.

audible_logoAudible is a great platform for anyone who regularly listens to audiobooks. It’s incredibly easy to use and user-friendly. Imagine everything that makes Amazon a great site to buy books from and apply that to audiobooks.

Adding a new title to your library is as simple as finding it and clicking “add.”

Even if you don’t commute to work, you can listen to these anytime. That’s the beauty of audiobooks. When you’re cooking dinner, working out at the gym, or going on a road trip.

Plus, there is something on Audible for everyone. After all, there are 250,000 different books. You can find a book in any genre that you’d like.
