AP Style Administration

Do I Capitalize Presidential Administration?

An administration consists of officials who make up the executive branch of a government. AP Style holds that all references to a particular administration should be lowercase. For example,

  • The Obama administration was releasing their newest initiative.
  • This governor’s administration is not as transparent as the last.
  • The administration took a hard stance on immigration.

-also-

  • a presidential administration; the president’s administration.

Also see the page on AP Style Government, Junta, and Regime for differences in using each of these terms and “administration.”
